Baccarat is a gambling card game, usually played in a casino, which is similar to blackjack but is slightly more complex. In baccarat, the goal is to get a total of 9 points from the cards dealed out. Aces are worth one point and the face cards (Jack, Queen, King) are worth zero points. The highest possible hand in baccarat is called a "natural", which is worth either 8 or 9 points. Players take turns to win a round of baccarat by getting a higher total than the dealer (or the "banker").
Baccarat is believed to have been invented in Italy in the 15th century and adapted by the French before becoming popular in the casinos of Europe. It remains popular in casinos throughout the world today.
